A little bit of my childhood...

A few things that I really miss about living back east are the things that I get to enjoy in the summer time. You see, if you can't already tell, summer is my most favorite time of the year. I love to be outside, I love to wear flip flops and tank tops, and the smell of BBQ's could send me over the edge...yummy!!

But with me, some things that go hand in hand with summer are....Fireflies or also known as lightening bugs. We don't have them over here in Washington...my hubby never grew up with them. (Let's all say it, poor deprived child!)

I remember spending countless hours gathering
grass and twigs in my jar to make a home for the bugs I would catch that evening. Sitting on the porch with my mom as we watched the world before us light up in the neighbor's yards. I remember as I got older...squishing (I know, gross) them on the ground to watch the glowy streak fade on the sidewalk.

This summer I get to go home to Ohio and spend a whole week teaching my kids the excitement of catching lightening bugs...I may even have to smush just one to show them how cool it looks on the ground...maybe just one sacrifice!

What are some your favorite summer things to do?

*by the way, I'm up to four miles. I have one week left until hubby and I get away (again without children) to run our little race. I'm really excited and can't believe I'm actually running the whole dang 4 miles...it feels good!!!

Hey, you stole my thunder :) I have a firefly post I am working on for this week - Aubrey and Molly saw them for the first time on Saturday night and it was so wonderful to sit and remember my own childhood as I watched the wonder in my own children's eyes.

ohh how i miss an impending thunderstorm. the rumble of thunder in the distance and the smell of rain.

ironically we don't have thunder or the smell of rain...weird huh.

also i just miss the midwest summer...like the old countrytime lemonade commercials.

We didn't have lightning bugs. We had horny toads and lizards. We caught them in the day. It was a lot of fun.

I love summer. I love Christmas too, but so much more happens at summer. I actually stepped inside for a minute for BBQing outside. Steaks on the grill and Jimmy Buffett on the stereo. I think this is my purpose in life. Now, how to get paid for it?

I love me some summer!!

I know killing lightening bugs should be a crime, but I taught my girls the art of "lightening bug jewelry" last summer. Smash away, and "Viola!" shiney new earrings.

We are thoroughly enjoying our summer. You'll have to check out my "Heather"'s post today. Loving it.

My mom grew up in Ohio and she would take us to this field out in the country around the middle of July every year when we would visit. It was down an old dark country road and it was lit up like a fairy land with fireflies. I will NEVER EVER forget it.

My fav. thing to do is to sit on my porch and watch the kids in the cul-de-sac play. Next favorite is just the "feeling" of everyone kicking back...on Mon. or Tues. or Wed. or Thurs. no less. Midweek kickback is soooooo summer.

My favorite thing about summer is being tan. I know that's so bad -- but having sun kissed cheeks just makes me feel better when I look in the mirror.

Also, don't know if you saw my follow up post but if you have time when you're home I'd love to meet -- even if it's just for an early morning coffee. I know wedding preparations can be hectic and visiting family you haven't seen in a while too.

There is so much about summer I love catching lightening bugs is one of them! I love a cross breeze when I'm sleeping at night, the smell of grills cooking around 5:30,the smell and look of a campfire, a night time swim, listening to music by the pool in the day! I could go on and on!
